The Ride Journal does it again.

23 01 2011

Now there are a lot of gorgeous bike mags out there, don’t get me wrong, but man, The Ride is always on the podium at the beauty contest.

They are launching their next issue on Thursday at Look Mum No Hands and Bicycle Image’s own Roxy Erickson will be featured in it. Do check out her photos of couriers, fixies, memoriam and polo and let us know what you think.

Judges of the GoingGoingBike Lock it or Lose it contest

13 11 2010

We’ve been asked by our friends over at GoingGoingBike to judge GGB’s new contest. You can submit photos or thoughts about how best to protect your bike against evil thieves and win stuff for doing it. Do you have an idea? Submit it!I’ll give you a few hints for what might win our judge over. 1st hint: We’re a photo library, so we are probably preferential to photos. 2nd, We want to see people actually getting out there and attempting or creating their best “lock it” plan. The more ridiculous the better!

the right to take pictures

2 10 2010

Having personally had cops threaten to arrest me and take my camera under the Terrorism Act I was saddened but not surprised to here the following audio clip.  To see the police who hassled me and a few couriers who protected my camera (thank you!) from the uniformed ruffians check out picture 10 in Bike Hurt on my personal site.

Paranoia seems to get more and more extreme. More recently I had parents on the Skyride (huge city-sponsored London bike ride) ask me accusingly if the pictures I had taken of their kids riding bikes fully dressed in a crowd of other people were going to be used for porn. Do they know what porn is?!

It is my humble opinion that this paranoia and fear is allowing the police to take away our personal right “just to be”. I doff my cycling cap at Mr Jules Matteson who was clever enough to record the police hassling him, and cool enough to keep his calm. The police however have a hard time it seems, defending their actions.

Please join me in backing Jules Matteson, fellow cyclist, for his courageous act in standing up for photographer’s rights. More on his case here.

The Guardian blogs about us!

How cool is that?! Not only are people buying our images but they are talking about the fact that people are buying our images. To check out our name being dropped, click on the link above. But more importantly this is a great opportunity for us to reach out to other bicycle photographers and say hello.

Would you like to join us and host your library of bicycle images with us? Then get in touch. Email Roxy (at) bicycleimages dot com or Farid (at) bicycleimages dot com and let us know. While it’s great that places like The Guardian are starting to talk about us, we want to use those opportunities to talk about you.

Check out the latest issue of Urban Velo. Great mag covering the every day’s of urban riding along with, in our opinion, more interesting articles like how to weave your way through City Hall in order to get more cycling rights.
